School district working on new budget, searching for new head football coach

The Frederick School Board received preliminary figures for next year’s budget during their regular meeting Monday night. The projected budget of $6,114,000.00 will be worked on between now and the board’s next meeting in June Different variables will impact the budget, not the least of which is the number of students enrolled. Superintendent Tony O’Brien told the board that the district is down 70 students from October 1, 2007, going from 963 to 893. (Full Story) | Varner and Gaines receive FFA's highest degree
Leesa Varner and Colton Gaines of the Frederick FFA Chapter, have received the prestigious State FFA Degree, the highest degree of active membership awarded by the Oklahoma FFA Association. The honor is bestowed upon high school senior FFA members who have demonstrated outstanding supervised agricultural experience programs and leadership activities. Only 687 of the more than 24,000 Oklahoma FFA members have advanced through the Discovery, Greenhand and Chapter Degrees to earn the state honor. (Full Story) Search warrant executed in Grandfield
On May 3, 2008 Grandfield Police Chief William Jones, responded to an ambulance call at 6th & Simpson in regards to a man being unconscious. Investigation by Chief Jones revealed that the person may have been under the influence of prescription drugs and alcohol. Chief Jones was asked by a family member to accompany them to the person’s residence so that medication he was taking could be taken to the hospital to assist doctors in his treatment. The FHS Varsity Choir and Bomber Band traveled to St. Louis, MO, to participate in the Heritage Music Festival 2008. The Festival included music groups from West Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio, Oklahoma, Canada, and other areas. Archery shooters Makenzie O’Brien, Cordelle Elsener, Lauren O’Brien and Courtney Haynes, along with their coach, Tony O’Brien, traveled to Texas A&M, to compete in the 2008 US National Indoor Championships, Southern Region. They competed in the JOAD and Fita competions, where after all the scores where turned in from All Regions across the United States, the girls were ranked in the top 13 in the United States.
